Week One Position Rankings
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Atlantic Division, Central Division, H2H, Northwest Division, Pacific Division, Roto, Site Features, Southeast Division, Southwest Division,
Welcome to DroppingDimes.com‘s first weekly rankings list! Each week, the four writers - Al, Ron, Sarge, and myself (sorry, just couldn’t use the third person because it’s quite stupid to, really) will look at our lists of positions, take into account the number of games played (so, please no “Why isn’t Kobe ranked first!” when Bryant only has two games that week and Jason Richardson has four), any injury issues that a player may be having, and the hotness/coldness of a player at that time.
We’ll rank EACH position into a Top 15 list and in parentheses have that player’s average position ranking amongst the four of us. First up… number of games for each team.
Atlanta Hawks—-3; Boston Celtics—-3; Charlotte Bobcats—-3; Chicago Bulls—-3; Cleveland Cavaliers—-3; Dallas Mavericks—-2; Denver Nuggets—-2; Detroit Pistons—-3; G.S. Warriors—-3; Houston Rockets—-3; Indiana Pacers—-3; Los Angeles Clippers—-3; Los Angeles Lakers—-4; Memphis Grizzlies—-3; Miami Heat—-3; Milwaukee Bucks—-3; Minnesota Timberwolves—-3; New Jersey Nets—-2; New Orleans Hornets—-3; New York Knicks—-3; Orlando Magic—-3; Philadelphia 76ers—-3; Phoenix Suns—-4; Portland Trail Blazers—-3; Sacramento Kings—-3; San Antonio Spurs—-3; Seattle Supersonics—-3; Toronto Raptors—-3; Utah Jazz—-3; Washington Wizards—-2

Injury Lowdown: Fantasy Sleeper Down - Marvin Williams Out 6-8 Weeks
Posted by Ron Chow Categories: Injuries, Site Features, Sleepers, Southeast Division, Atlanta Hawks,
Marvin Williams in out 6-8 weeks with a broken bone in his left hand. Williams broke his hand during practice on October 26 as he swiped for the ball. Ironically, teammate Speedy Claxton is returning back from breaking the same bone to his left hand. Calcium supplements for all Hawks players, please!

Stat’s All Folks: Doing It Preseason Style!

I have to admit, I was brainstorming and thinking of different ways to write an introductory paragraph about how the NBA was back, but for some reason I just couldn’t come up with anything. I wrote out the ubiquitous Star Wars reference about Episode V, but didn’t want to appear too fanboyish the first time out. Then Apocalypse Now hit my head with that whole “I love the smell of…,” but thought of the connotations and chucked that idea. Then the Rodney Dangerfield classic, Back to School came to mind and how the NBA doesn’t get any respect, but didn’t want to go on a diatribe validating the League.
So, what am I saying?
I watch entirely too many movies, but I’m also way too excited about the NBA being back to think straight. However, I’ll pop in Brad Pitt’s Meet Joe Black into the DVD player to bore me and calm my nerves enough to write this article.
(Ten minutes later; yeah, that quickly)
During the regular season, the aim of Stat’s All Folks will be to take a stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks. I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.
Here’s the preseason installment of Stat’s All Folks. Jagshemash, NB and A!

Wire to Wire - Preseason Edition

Wire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs. It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist – all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time.
For many leagues, this weekend is the one where your fantasy basketball rosters come to fruition. Preseason activity is over, you’ve scoured the box scores, and you’re ready to roll. You get your cheat sheets together, put on your “Witness” t-shirt, and start drafting. OK, maybe that second part is just something that I do, but you get the drift. It’s go time. It’s make or break time. It’s tell your buddies that Pau Gasol is a solid second round pick time!
I’ve taken part in several mock drafts and real drafts thus far, and let me tell you – no matter what shape or size league you’re in, there is some value to be had in that waiver wire. Quick note: Everyone and their brothers are talking about Boston’s Rajon Rondo…so I’m choosing not too. If you think he’ll get playing time, then go for it. Just remember that there are about 6 legitimate point guards/shooting guards in Bean Town. Oh, and Paul Pierce will get his time. You’ve been forewarned. Wait, I just talked about him…I knew that wouldn’t work.
Let’s dig in.

Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 6, Pick 12

Round 6, Pick 12: Jameer Nelson, PG, Orlando Magic
On a team that already has a solid front court in Amare Stoudemire and Chris Kaman, solid wing players in Vince Carter and Caron Butler, as well as some guy named LeBron, the only way I could go with this team would be to solidify the backcourt with a point guard.
While Jameer Nelson was a bit nicked up last season, once he was given free reign as the point man, he had a nice span of scoring, assists and shooting percentages. As you’ll notice from my point guard rankings, the fact that Nelson can still hit consistently from the field, while draining the occasional three makes him of great value in my book.

Fantasy Sports R Us was also nice enough to take part in our experts’ roto league. Thanks to Richard Christ for reppin’ them. They can explain what they are about better than I can, so here is what I found on their site…
“FSRU is the #1 most hated fantasy leagues site on the net. Why? Because we have the highest payouts, we are the fastest growing, and damn it we are just flat out the best. Period.”
Check them out. In the meantime, peep what they did at our draft. For full draft results, click here.

Thanks to Brandon Haraway for representing the Lounge and participating in our first ever experts’ league. Check out his team inside.

Dropping Dimes’ Experts Roto League: Neil Tardy’s Team

The Talented Mr. Roto is a pillar of fantasy sports. They rep fantasy hoops over at NBA.com, and if you have not studied up on Matthew Berry’s Draft Day Manifesto, then you need to get cracking because you are behind in the game.
Thanks to Neil Tardy for representing TMR and taking part in our league. Neil drew the shortest straw in that he drafted last out of twelve teams. Although in this slot a team gets to make back-to-back picks, a lot of players fly off the board before your turn comes up again. Let us see what he had to say about his team!

We here at Dropping Dimes would like to thank Mike Slane for participating in our league. Here is what he had to say about his team.

Could this be the scene on April 18, 2007, the last day of the season? Marvin Williams, a sleeper of an eighth round pick pumping his first in victory, while the leader of my team walks away dejectedly? While Josh Smith, representing Fantasy Sports R Us chews him out for not passing him the rock?
Sarge can rant with the best of them. Let’s hear what he has to say about his team.
